• Microalbuminuria is a sensitive indicator of early kidney damage in diabetes or in hyper[1]
• ACR is a reliable marker as it is not a­ected by factors such as hyperglycemia, exercise, fever, protein intake in the diet and drugs; and more convenient than UAE (gold standard of microalbuminuria diagnosis).
• The KDOQI Diabetic Nephrology Guidelines and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommended ACR as the preferred method for screening microalbuminuria in 2007.
• Microalbuminuria is de‑ned as ACR ≥3.5 mg/mmol (female) or ≥2.5 mg/mmol (male).**
